This weight loss plan teaches dieters to adopt the eating habits of the people in and around the Mediterranean Sea. The people in this region are clean and beautiful and to achieve the same look try this plan.

This diet is founded upon the idea of needing food is more than just consuming. Heating is a total experience which should involve taking proper amount of time to prepare it as low as eight. At base, food that is eaten slowly is enjoyed much more than food just eaten quickly.

There are no restrictions on this diet. The plan emphasizes that high calorie and fried foods are to be avoided. Other than that, the choices are pretty wide open. As long as portion control is heeded, most foods are not bad for you.

Bread is a staple of the Mediterranean diet, in particular, pita bread. Pita bread also comes in whole wheat varieties, which adds to the healthy choice. Pita bread is light enough to complement any meal and provide the starch that we crave without adding a lot of calories. For instance, try dipping a Pita bread triangle in a bit of olive oil and herbs to add flavor and pizzazz to almost any meal.

While on the Mediterranean diet, participants get to eat fruits, veggies, low calorie pasta, cheeses and yogurt. Vegetables are sauted in olive oil for a lighter taste. Whole wheat pasta is an alternative to those made with white flour.

In the Mediterranean people get most of the protein from plant sources, the meat is consumed as well. Fish and seafood are the most common, but lean red meat is eaten in small portions as well. The benefit is that plant proteins are lower in cholesterol and fat. This improves the overall health of the Mediterranean people and individuals following this diet.

This diet plan focuses on the enjoyment of food. While exercise is not stressed in my opinion it’s an essential part of any weight loss plan. If you follow this diet you will lose weight but if you add an exercise component your results will improve drastically.
