Does Milk Really Help With Weight Loss?

Frances Norah Smith » 28 February 2009 » In Weight Loss » No Comments

So you think that milk is good for your body? If yes then you really need to read this whole article. There are so many people who have the same believe as you, and I cannot blame anybody for this because dairy farmers are responsible for all these. They claim that milk will help strengthen your bones because of the presence of calcium in it. They also claim that milk will give you such energy boost that you will feel like a superman. Obviously, they want you to believe this way so that they can cash in on your gullibility. However, just as some other myths are doing the rounds of the weight loss industry, this is also a myth.

1. Surprisingly, the milk you purchase from your local store is not pure milk: it has been processed with the help of pasteurization, meaning that it has been boiled at a temperature of 160 centigrade and then cooled down. Milk is pasteurized in order to kill any and all the germs present in the raw milk. On the flip side, pasteurization not only kills the germs, but also the beneficial nutrients present in it. Enzymes such as lipase and phosphates can be a lot beneficial to your body, but you wont enjoy its benefit in the pasteurized milk that you purchase from your local shop.

That is not however the end of the story. Pasteurization also kills antibodies such as immunoglobulin that is present in raw milk. Immunoglobulin strengthens the immune system in your body against various diseases. From my point of view, milk will not benefit you, at least not the one that comes in sealed packets.

After pasteurization is completed, the milk is homogenized to maintain the cream at the bottom. Once this process is done, several synthetic vitamins are added to it in order to make it ‘nutritious’. However, remember that synthetic vitamins are not and can never be substitutes for natural vitamins. They are man-made chemicals and will have more harmful effects to your body.

2. Milk causes weight gain: Contrary to what you might think, instead of losing weight, milk will actually make you gain weight. If you are in the habit of drinking milk frequently, it is expected that you have become overweight. As you drink more and more milk, you will gain more and more weight.

3. Milk causes a host of other diseases: Besides weight gain, there are a lot of harmful side effects of drinking milk, such as arthritis, constipation, skin allergies, cancer, acne, etc.

Do you still want to drink milk? I hope not.

Know More on Quick Weight Loss

Vhinez Ruth » 27 February 2009 » In Weight Loss Diet » No Comments

The American Heart Association says that adopting healthy eating habits permanently, rather than impatiently pursuing crash diets in hopes of losing unwanted pounds in a few days through fad quick weight loss plans.

Many of these fad diets, such as the notorious and outright silly Cabbage Soup Diet, will undermine your health, cause physical discomfort (abdominal discomfort and flatulence (gas) ) and lead to the ping-pong effect of gaining weight soon after losing it. In other words the risks aren’t worth the rewards.

Quick-weight-loss diets generally put far too much emphasis on one particular food or type of food. They don’t include a variety of foods or a healthy balance, a violation of the first principle of good nutrition, eat a balanced diet that includes a variety of foods. If you are able to stay on such a diet for more than a few weeks, you may develop nutritional deficiencies, because no one type of food has all the elements a human being needs for good health. The Cabbage Soup Diet is a good example. This so-called fat-burning soup is eaten mostly with fruits and vegetables. The diet supposedly helps heart patients lose 10-17 pounds in seven days prior to surgery. Even if the weight loss claim were true, all the damage due to a lack of a host of important nutrients would far outweigh (pun intended) the benefits of losing the weight. Pixies, elves and fairies, or even cabbages, can’t provide magical weight loss. Moderation and consuming all the major food groups is the best bet.

These crazy diets also ignore a second important principle of good nutrition which is that eating should be enjoyable.. These diets are so monotonous and bland that it’s almost impossible to stay on them for long periods. Imagine eating cabbage soup, nothing but cabbage soup, for even a few days much less for a whole week. By mid week crawling bugs would look good. They’d carry you away in a straight jacket on Sunday.

Boredom isn’t the only reason fad diets aren’t good ones. Many don’t include physical activity, for example, walking 30 minutes most or all days of the week. Physical activity helps maintain weight loss, while physical inactivity is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke. When a diet includes no need for a workout, run the other way.

Quick weight loss sounds great. It is possible. But if a program sounds too good to be true, it is.

Easy Weight Loss With Wu Yi Tea

Thomas J. Slater » 27 February 2009 » In Weight Loss Diet » No Comments

The shelves at your local market are probably groaning under the weight of all the different energy drinks and other products, all of which are touted by their manufacturers as effective ways to increase your metabolism and help you to lose weight. If you have been following these products for a while, you certainly know that a lot of them used to contain Ephedra, an herb which has been banned by the FDA because it is simply not safe for some people.

It makes you think, doesn?t it? How can you know that these energy drinks are actually safe to use? Why not avoid them and try something which is completely safe, all natural and has been used by the Chinese for centuries?

There has been extensive research on this beverage, conducted in Asia, Europe and the US, all of which has indicated that this is a truly safe, all natural drink which is effective at helping your body burn off excess energy and lose fat. There is also the established fact that this beverage contains a wealth of antioxidant compounds which can protect your body against disease and slow down some of the physical effects of aging.

Wu Yi tea is this amazing, all natural weight loss and health drink. Grown and processed at Wu Yi Mountain in China?s Fujian province, Wu Yi tea is a variant of oolong tea which has been enjoyed by the Chinese for a very long time. The tea is believed to be partially responsible for the good health and long life spans of the Chinese people.

Wu Yi tea, because of the way in which it’s processed, is rich in a substance called polyphenol. Research has shown that polyphenols raise the body’s metabolic rate, so that your stored fat will be broken down and burned as energy at an accelerated rate. Polyphenols trigger a process called lipolysis in which your body’s own fat burning enzymes work more effectively, causing a natural weight loss which will not threaten your health.

The research done on Wu Yi tea has also shown that daily consumption of the tea can lower your odds of developing some cancers, improve heart and respiratory function and even promote stronger bones and teeth! It also helps to regulate your cholesterol levels; is there any other weight loss drink on the market which can do any, let alone all of these things?

Drinking only two cups of Wu Yi tea will provide you with its fat-burning benefits, and drinking more of it will provide additional health benefits. Wu Yi tea is safe for everyone–women, men, and children of all weights and degrees of physical fitness. There have been no side effects reported from drinking Wu Yi tea, and researchers now say that the small amount of caffeine found in tea does nothing to dehydrate the body. Drinking Wu Yi tea is as safe as drinking the purest water, while providing you with a host of additional health benefits!

The Most Important Aspect of Diet Pills

Jesse M » 26 February 2009 » In Weight Loss Diet » No Comments

I’ve reviewed close to 300 different diet pills now and I’m often asked how it is that I can judge the efficacy of a diet pill without actually taking the diet pill myself. The answer is simple: If you want to know if a diet pill will work, just look at its ingredients. Surprisingly, the actual ingredients in the product are usually what gets looked over when most consumers decide on a diet pill. This brief article will help you as you evaluate diet pills to know if the ingredients included are up to par and will be likely to help you lose weight.

When you start to research the ingredients that are in a given diet pill, you’ll want to be sure that you use credible sources. Unfortunately, many diet pills provide information on the ingredients that sounds more like a sales pitch (because it is) than unbiased statements. A such, you should always verify their cliams by researching the ingredients for yourself. PubMed, Wikipedia, and peer-reviewed medical journals are good sources of unbiased information.

Something that you’ll often see when searching for diet pills is that they’ll cite research and twist it so that it looks as though the research was done on their product, when in fact, it was done on an ingredient that the product contains. Now, it’s good that they cited that research, I just wish they would be more upfront about the information that they provide. You should also always be skeptical of claims about studies if they don’t give you the reference for you to verify yourself.

It is very important that you do your own research rather than rely upon the sales copy of the diet pills. There are some ingredients on the market (for example, hoodia gordonii and acai berry) that have become extremely popular lately that have absolutely zero well documented, legitimate scientific studies that support any of their claims to help in weight loss. It’s all a bunch of hype created by the diet pill manufacturers themselves. So don’t believe everything that you hear.

Once you have verified that a certain ingredient has been proven to cause weight loss, your research isn’t over there. You must also verify that the amount of the ingredient used in the diet pill is up to par with what the clinical studies have shown to be effective. Too often diet pills will use ‘Proprietary Blends’ that hide the amounts of the ingredients.

For example, if an ingredient was shown to cause weight loss in a study that used 600 mg per dosage, in order for the diet pill to have the same effect it would obviously need to have the same amount of the ingredient. But what many companies do is they put a small amount of the ingredient in the pill so that they can advertise that they have the ingredient and then not disclose how much you’re actually getting by takingit. In short, look for diet pills that allow you to verify their effectiveness by listing the amounts of all their ingredients.

Yet another trick that some diet pills use is including an insanely long list of ingredients. Don’t be impressed by such tactics. In most cases (not all, but most) they can’t fit enough of each ingredient in the pill do any good. They’re just trying to add credibility by making you think there’s a lot in the pill.

Some of what you’ve read may seem like common sense. It is. But it’s so often overlooked by consumers that diet pill companies are making a killing by providing sub-par products. When it comes down it, the ingredients are the only things that make a pill effective. So make sure you do your homework to make the right choices when picking diet pills.

What You Must Know Before You Try Zone Diet!

Jessica A. Andersen » 26 February 2009 » In Weight Loss Diet » No Comments

Dr. Barry Sears developed the Zone Diet. The diet uses the 40/30/30 strategy. This means that you consume 40% carbs, 30% fat, and 30% protein. The good Dr. Sears advocates a balanced diet plan in order to lose weight and avoid diseases.

The Zone Diet lasers in on insulin production as the major precursor and cause of weight gain. Eating foods that cause a spike in insulin production cause weight gain. This happens because highly sugary foods spike insulin production. Insulin attacks the sugars and loads it into your cells storing it fat. These spikes in insulin production are negatively correlated with diabetes and heart disease. That is, they cause diabetes and heart disease.

The Zone diet is specific about the types of foods that help keep insulin in check. Carbohydrates like those found in fruits and vegetables are better than those found in anything made from white flour. Processed foods are a no-no since they contain plenty of empty calories that turn to fat in the body.

On the Zone Diet you’ll eat 3 daily meals and two snacks. Your snacks, of course, will prevent hunger between meals and prevent you from overeating during meals. Choose carefully though and avoid empty calories that will spike insulin production. Your meals will adhere to the 40/30/30 rule. Meaning 40% will come from vegies like corn, cauliflower, beans, squash, peppers and the like. 30% of your calories will come from protein. A good portion measuring device is to eat a piece of protein (chicken, steak, fish etc.) that is about the same size as your palm. And any excess fat should be removed before eating.

Consumption of the proper amount of fat is essential because doing so slows digestion and provides a continuous source of steady energy. Slowing your digestion is good because you won’t feel hungry immediately after eating because your body will be busy digesting. The Zone Diet recommends eating good fats contained in nuts and canola and olive oil.

Foods that cause spikes in the blood sugar are avoided as much as possible. We know that candy, cakes, and other sweet treats can do this, but also more common foods. Breads, pasta noodles, and heavy starches will do the same thing. These foods are addictive and we often eat more than a serving size of them at any one time, without realizing it.

The Zone diet provides affordable pre-packed foods to help you get started and stick to the diet. Also, we can provide you with dozens of sources of zone diet recipes. With just a few changes to your weekly grocery list you’ll be Zone Diet Compliant! In fact, your family probably won’t even notice the change to their menu once you do the switch.

How to Identify your Health Profile for Successful Weight Loss

Timothy Hartford » 26 February 2009 » In Weight Loss Diet » No Comments

In a few people’s cases, genetics is the cause of their weight problem, but for the majority, the root problem is in their health profile. So to get on the right path for weight loss success, you need to identify the problem areas in your health and weight profile.

First of all, for gradual weight gain you can surely rule out a genetic or health issue and should rather look at your eating habits. If you eat a lot of fast foods or big amounts of candy everyday or every other day, that is where your weight comes from. To identify these issues, you should go ahead and make up a health and weight profile for yourself.

Keeping a record of what you eat everyday, the time you eat and the calories consumed is the best way to start. All liquids also need to be included in the record. People are often shocked when they see the amount being consumed without realizing it.

Knowing the approximate calorie intake you need each day to maintain a healthy weight is the next step. This can be done by searching the internet for phrases such as daily calorie requirements, checking dieting books or speaking with your doctor. You can also visit http://www.healthyfoodportions.com/Resources.htm for free tools and a worksheet. Your sex, age, height and weight are typically used to calculate your daily calorie needs along with details of regular exercise.

Having estimated your daily calorie needs, check your records to see how much you are eating. It is likely that your calorie intake is much higher than what you need to maintain a healthy weight, never mind what it is for losing weight.

Now you should take out a color highlighter pen and mark the foods that are basically bad for you, e.g. sweets and candy, fast food, high fat foods, juice drinks etc. If your days are colorful, these are the areas that you need to considerably cut down. A treat once in a while is good, but not several times a day! Your excess weight is primarily because of these foods. To escape from your excess weight, your eating habits need to change.

Recording the amount of exercise you do is also important. You should include exercise in your weekly routine and three to five times is recommended. What does your current exercise routine look like?

Your exercise record will show if you need to do more, which is likely. It sounds like a tough obstacle to overcome but it is easy to get started. Just go for a walk.

If you can, park as far away from the office or supermarket door as possible to add the extra steps. Take the stairs instead of the elevator and if you have a chance to go to the fitness studio, take advantage of it. Exercise is essential in a healthy diet and even more important in a diet plan.

Take action now and get started on your health and weight profile and take the necessary steps that will make you successful in your healthy weight loss plan and in your life as a whole.

5 Guaranteed Tips to Weight Loss Success

Frances Norah Smith » 26 February 2009 » In Weight Loss Diet » No Comments

There are abundance of diet programs whether online or offline. Even if you were to search the World Wide Web only, you will still find a wide range of diet programs. What is more tedious is finding a diet plan that would be suited for your health, help you lose weight and not harm your body in any way. Believe me, finding the best weight loss program is like finding a pearl from the bottom of the ocean. But regardless of which diet program you chose, you will still need to follow the basics of dieting, otherwise you will never be able to lose weight. In this article, I will tell you about five basics of effective weight loss.

1. Metabolism is the key weight loss determinant: Always keep in mind that your body’s metabolic rate is what will determine how much weight you will be able to lose at a given point of time. When your metabolic rate is high, you are able to lose significant amount weight even while at rest; on the other hand, if your metabolic rate is slow, then you should find ways to increases it. One option to speed up your metabolism is to consume weight loss pills and supplements.

2. Regular exercises are a must: Regardless of how close you follow your diet, if you stay idle all day sitting on your couch and watching your favorite TV program, how can you expect to lose those unwanted belly fat? You should exercise regularly and never skip even a single workout session! If you are afraid of high intensity exercises such as cardio and resistance training, you can start with lighter aerobics. Aerobics will help you burn as much fat as cardio. If you cannot do exercises at all, regular walking alone will help you burn fat.

3. Don’t lose it too quickly: I know that you are trying to lose weight and fit yourself into one of your old jeans or bikinis as fast as you can, but you should never attempt to lose weight too fast. Ideally you should lose no more than 1 or 2 pounds per week. If you lose more than that then it can affect your health negatively. If you think you are losing weight too fast, you should immediately visit a doctor.

4. Eat low fat foods only: I know that every weight loss expert has advised you the same thing, but allow me to reiterate that you should eat only those foods that have a low fat content. Eating fatty and junk foods will make your situation worse!

5. Work harder for hereditary obesity: Some people become overweight because of hereditary issues. If your parents were overweight then it is no wonder that you won’t be any different. Also, people who suffer from hereditary obesity need to work harder than others in order to lose weight. This doesn’t mean that you cannot lose weight at all; but you shouldn’t expect yourself to become ultra slim like others.

3 Weight Loss Myths That Can Put Your Life in Jeopardy

Frances Norah Smith » 25 February 2009 » In Weight Loss Diet » No Comments

Health related articles contain lots of information when it comes to weight loss. It includes useful tips that actually work and also those that don’t. The weight loss industry is filled with myths, not to mention misleading and inaccurate information as some tend to change the facts for their own gains or partly due to the lack of knowledge. As a result, fad diets, weight loss supplements and pills that don’t work came about. In this article I will discuss three such weight loss myths.

1. Myth#1: Spot reduction of fat is possible: Not totally true. This claim is not true to a certain extent and it has been backed up by weight loss experts. Many have been mislead that if you do workouts that focus on a certain area, you can spot reduce fat.

If you do only crunches and leg lifts frequently in the hope of reducing belly fat, you will notice that instead of reducing your belly fat, you will reduce the muscle mass that resides beneath the abdomen. For this reason, your focus should not be on crunches and leg lifts alone; you should also follow a healthy diet that would speed up your metabolic rate and help you burn fat fast!

2. Myth#2: Cutting down extremely on calorie consumption decreases your body fat: This inaccurate claim has made many to go on crash diets, some even to the extent of starvation with the hope to shed the unwanted pounds. As for most, little did they know that they are actually ruining their body. The body enters the starvation mode when you fast or starve. Cutting down extremely on calorie intake makes the body go into starvation mode and this will slow down your metabolism rate. Hence in order to produce energy, the body will burn your muscles instead of your fat. On top of that, your body will absorb more calories when you resume your normal diet, resulting in weight gain.

3. Myth#3: Doing cardio exercises alone can assist in weight loss: Cardio exercises can definitely assist in weight loss however it is not the only form of exercise that is able to help you lose weight. Different form of exercises like aerobics can also have the same weight loss effects. Other exercise like weight lifting on the other hand, is a much better exercise compared to both cardio and aerobics. It assists in weight loss and also helps you gain muscles at the same time.

I hope that this article has helped you to be aware of the misleading information about weight loss.
